Soul City Church

I’m writing this review because Google searches and other reviews can leave the impression that Soul City Church is an LGBTQ+ affirming church. It is not. Unless you’re asking direct questions about church policy or digging deeper, you may never know that. According to the church’s stated policies, which can be verified through Church Clarity, LGBTQ+ people cannot participate on equal terms. They cannot be employed in certain roles, have their marriages recognized, or fully participate in all aspects of church life. Everyone is welcome to attend and give financially, but that is not the same as being fully affirmed. If you’re specifically looking for an affirming church, I hope this review helps you make an informed decision before you visit.

I’m writing this review as a warning for those who are actually looking for the true God not the “God” of the world. First time going to this church and I was instantly appalled in the first few minutes of the sermon which was all about wealth and finances. I left the church knowing more about finances than I did about the word of God. This “church” is more focused on serving the people of the world than actually preaching the word of God. As mentioned in Mathew 15:8-9. It is important as believers to be mindful of these churches that claim to be doing Gods work because the enemy knows scripture too and will twist and turn the truth to fit their agenda. 1 John 4:1-6.

I have specific preferences for a sermon. I want the pastor to read the Bible verse, tell what it meant to people in the day and finally tell parishioners what it means today and how to follow. Simple, they nailed it (no pun intended). And they wrapped up service in an hour. Really welcoming atmosphere. I found a church home!

What a really nice church! I was in the city with my brother celebrating his and my sister birthday. After brunch, I was going to drop him off at his church then go home. I decided to walk in with him to check it out. I wasn’t planning on staying but the worship, the sermon, and atmosphere really kept me interested. It was a very diverse crowd (a big PLUS) and very hipster. The people were chill. I would go again.

As a biracial american, I find it hard at times to find community within non denominational churches. But, Soul City truly shows diversity and love towards ALL Image bearers. I am so grateful to have found Soul City and have been serving/attending for almost a year now. They have programs like Alpha which helps create a safe space and conversation for non believers that have questions about Christianity. They have the house of hope to help the homeless. They have many friendly staff that interacts with you if you have questions. If you are looking for a new church, I would strongly recommend Soul City for inclusion, biblical teaching, and a church that truly loves on his community.
